Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
In March I had the opportunity to tour the Phipps Conservatory, a mammoth steel and glass Victorian greenhouse that has been welcoming plant enthusiasts from around the globe since its opening in 1893. Built as a gift to the city by Henry Phipps, his stated goal was to “erect something that will prove a source of instruction as well as pleasure to the people.” He most definitely succeeded. Highly recommended.
Glass sculptures by local artisans were one of the featured accouterments in March. |
